ISL782244-Phase 12V/48V Bidirectional Synchronous PWM Controller | Power Management (PMIC) | 1 | Active | The ISL78224 is a 4-phase, bidirectional, synchronous PWM controller designed to perform power conversion between 12V and 48V buses up to 3kW at >95% conversion efficiency. One ISL78224 supports both Buck and Boost power conversion, enabling a compact and robust design with minimum components. The ISL78224 regulates both voltage and current to control power transfer from bus to bus. The multiphase architecture uses interleaved timing to support up to four parallel power stages per ISL78224. By interleaving the power stages, the ripple frequency is multiplied, reducing input and output ripple voltage and current. Lower ripple results in fewer input/output capacitors and therefore lower component cost and smaller circuit implementation. The IC is designed to be interleaved in a master/slave architecture to be scalable for higher power. Integrated within the device is a dual-output Flyback controller that generates both a 12V supply for the power stage FET drivers and a 6V supply for the ISL78224 from either of the two buses. A 200mA auxiliary linear regulator supplies a local microcontroller or interface devices. A PMBus interface provides system control and diagnostics to support functional safety requirements. This digital interface offers the system controller the ability to program operating modes, voltage and current limit warning and protection thresholds, individual fault response, and rapid fault condition detection. |
ISL782254-Phase Interleaved Boost PWM Controller with Light Load Efficiency Enhancement | PMIC | 2 | Active | The ISL78225 4-phase controller is targeted for applications where high efficiency (>95%) and high power are required. The multiphase boost converter architecture uses interleaved timing to multiply channel ripple frequency and reduce input and output ripple. Lower ripple results in fewer input/output capacitors and therefore lower component cost and smaller implementation area. The ISL78225 has a dedicated pin to initiate the phase dropping scheme for higher efficiency at light load by dropping phases based on the load current, so the switching and core losses in the converter are reduced significantly. As the load increases, the dropped phase(s) are added back to accommodate heavy load transients and improve efficiency. Input current is sensed continuously by measuring the voltage across a dedicated current sense resistor or inductor DCR. This current sensing provides precision channel-current balancing, and per-phase overcurrent protection. A separate totalizing current limit function provides overcurrent protection for all the phases combined. This two-stage current protection provides maximum performance and circuit reliability. ISL78225 can also provide for input voltage tracking via the VREF2 pin. The comparison reference voltage will be the lower of the VREF2 pin or the internal 2V reference. By using a resistor network between VIN and VREF2 pin, the output voltage can track input voltage to limit the output power during automotive cranking conditions. ISL78225 can output a clock signal for expanding operation to 8 phases, which offers high system flexibility. The threshold-sensitive enable input is available to accurately coordinate the start-up of the ISL78225 with any other voltage rail. |
ISL782266-Phase 12V/48V Bidirectional Synchronous PWM Controller | Evaluation and Demonstration Boards and Kits | 1 | Active | The ISL78226 is a 6-phase, bidirectional, synchronous PWM controller designed to perform power conversion between 12V and 48V buses up to 3. 75kW at >95% conversion efficiency. One ISL78226 supports both Buck and Boost power conversion enabling a compact and robust design with minimum components. ISL78226 regulates both voltage and current to control power transfer from bus to bus. The multiphase architecture uses interleaved timing to support up to six parallel power stages per ISL78226. By interleaving the power stages, the ripple frequency is multiplied, reducing input and output ripple voltage and current. Lower ripple results in fewer input/output capacitors and therefore, lower component cost and smaller circuit implementation. The IC is designed to be interleaved in a master/slave architecture to be scalable for higher power. Also integrated within the device is a dual-output Flyback controller that generates both a 12V supply for the power stage FET drivers as well as a 6V supply for the ISL78226 from either of the two buses. A 200mA auxiliary linear regulator is provided to supply a local microcontroller or interface devices. A PMBus interface provides system control and diagnostics to support functional safety requirements. This digital interface offers the system controller the ability to program operating modes, voltage and current limit warning, protection thresholds, individual fault response, and rapid fault condition detection. |
