VNI4140Quad high-side smart power solid-state relay | Power Distribution Switches, Load Drivers | 3 | Active | The STEVAL-IFP019V1 demonstration board shows the features of the VNI4140K-32 quad high-side smart-power solid-state relay.
The application offers robustness and complies with EMC industrial standards. It implements short-circuit/overload protection and also thermal management, achieving best-in-class MTBF values. The reference design is suitable for use in programmable logic controllers (PLCs) as well as to drive generic loads which require up to 1 A of nominal current (the typical current limitation is 1.1 - 2.6 A). Thanks to the very low RDS(on)(only 80 mΩ typical @ 25 °C per channel) the device allows very low power consumption during operation and for this reason it offers an ideal solution for IP65 / IP67 requirements. The VNI4140K-32 is compliant with IEC 61131-2 (international standard for programmable controllers). |
VNI4140K-32Quad high side smart power solid state relay | Power Distribution Switches, Load Drivers | 1 | Active | The VNI414K (for loads up to 0.6 A) and VNI4140K-32 (for loads up to 1.0 A) are monolithic 4-channel drivers featuring very low RDS(on) and per-channel diagnostic. The ICs, realized in STMicroelectronics™ VIPower™ technology, are intended to drive any kind of load with one side connected to ground.
Active channel current limitation combined with thermal shutdown, independent for each channel, and automatic restart, protect the device against overload.
A channel in an overload condition overheats and turns OFF and back ON automatically in order to maintain its junction temperature between TTSD and TR. If this condition makes case temperature reach TCSD, the overloaded channel is turned OFF and restarts only when case temperature has decreased down to TCR. In case of more than one channel in overload, restart of the overloaded channels is not simultaneous, in order to avoid high peak current from the supply. Non-overloaded (non-overheated) channels continue operating normally.
The four open drain STATUSX output pins indicate per-channel overtemperature conditions. |
VNI8200Eight-channel high-side driver based on the VNI8200XP-32 | Development Boards, Kits, Programmers | 2 | Active | The STEVAL-IFP022V1 demonstration board is based on VNI8200XP high-side driver. It was developed as an instrument to test device functionality in terms of power management and digital interface.
As required by industrial standards, the board’s isolated interface between the IPS and host controller were implemented using high-speed opto-couplers for IPS driving, and low-speed opto-couplers to receive device status information. The connection is achieved through a 30-pin connector.
To provide a user-friendly way to test VNI8200XP device functionality, a GUI interface was developed. To use the GUI it is necessary to connect the STEVAL-IFP022V1 demonstration board to a PC by using a communication board (part number STEVAL-PCC009V2).
Thermal performance is improved thanks to a four-layer structure which makes it possible to design a copper area distributed in all the layers for more effective heat dissipation.
The STEVAL-IFP022V1 demonstration board meets EFT standard requirements IEC 61000-4-2, IEC 61000-4-4, IEC 61000-4-5. |
VNI8200XPOctal high side smart power solid state relay with serial/parallel selectable interface on chip | Power Management (PMIC) | 2 | Active | The VNI8200XP and VNI8200XP-32 are monolithic 8-channel drivers, designed in STMicroelectronics™ VIPower™ technology, intended to drive any kind of load with one side connected to ground. Both ICs operates from 10.5 V to 36 V and feature a very low supply current, parallel or 4-wires SPI control interface, 4x2 LED matrix and a micropower step-down switching regulator with peak current control loop mode.
The SPI interface (enabled by SEL2 pin = H) can work up to 5 MHz in 8-bits (SEL1 = L), or 16-bits (SEL1 = H) with parity check and extended diagnostic (DC-DC operation, Case over-temperature, SPI Communication Fail, Power Good) information. In SPI mode the daisy chain is allowed, both the OUT_EN signal and the MCU freeze detection by whatchdog are available. If enabled (WD_EN voltage above 25% of VREG), the watchdog circuitry generates an internal reset on expiry of the internal watchdog timer. The watchdog timer reset can be achieved by applying a negative pulse on the WD pin. The whatchdog timer can be programmed by the set voltage on WD_EN pin.
The internal LED matrix driver circuitry (4 rows, 2 columns) allows the efficient driving of the 8 LEDs reporting the on/off status of each of the 8 outputs. The VREG pin supplies both the logic output buffers and LED matrix. The 100 mA output current capability of the integrated step-down (featuring overload and short-circuit conditions) can be used to supply both the VREG pin and other application components (for example digital isolators or optocouplers).
Active per-channel current limitation (0.7 A and 1.0A for VNI8200XP and VNI8200XP-32, respectively), combined with channel-independent thermal shutdown, protect the circuitry against overload and short circuit. Built-in thermal shutdown protects each channel from over-temperature and overload: each overheated channel automatically turns OFF after its junction temperature triggers the protection threshold (TTSD). The channel turns back ON if its junction temperature decreases lower than restart threshold (TR). An additional case temperature sensor protects the whole chip against over-temperature: if the case temperature triggers the TCSD threshold then overloaded channels are turned OFF and restart only when case temperature decreased down to the reset threshold (TCR). Non overloaded channels continue to operate normally.
Loss of GND protection guarantees automatic turn off the outputs in case of ground wire break.
Dedicated diagnostic pins report the detection of: invalid voltage range on VCC rail (PG pin), case over-temperature (TWARN pin), SPI fault or junction over-temperature (FAULT pin). |

VNL5030J-EOMNIFET III: fully protected low-side driver | Power Distribution Switches, Load Drivers | 1 | Active | The VNL5030J-E and VNL5030S5-E are monolithic devices made using STMicroelectronics®VIPower®technology, intended for driving resistive or inductive loads with one side connected to the battery. Built-in thermal shutdown protects the chip from overtemperature and short-circuit. Output current limitation protects the devices in an overload condition. In case of long duration overload, the device limits the dissipated power to a safe level up to thermal shutdown intervention.Thermal shutdown, with automatic restart, allows the device to recover normal operation as soon as a fault condition disappears. Fast demagnetization of inductive loads is achieved at turn-off. |
