This evaluation board comes preassembled with VNH7040AY H-Bridge. The on-board minimum set of electrical components (as for device datasheet recommendation) enables the user to directly connect the load, the power supply and the microcontroller without any additional effort in external component design and connection.
VNH7040AY is a full bridge motor driver intended for a wide range of automotive applications. The device incorporates a dual monolithic high-side driver and two low-side switches. Both switches are designed using ST proprietary VIPower®M0 technology that allows to efficiently integrate on the same die a true Power MOSFET with an intelligent signal/protection circuitry. The three dies are assembled in PowerSSO-36 package equipped with three exposed island for optimized dissipation performances.
This package is specifically designed for the harsh automotive environment and offers improved thermal performance thanks to exposed die pads. A Multisense_EN pin is available to enable the MultiSense diagnostic. The input signals INA and INB can directly interface the microcontroller to select the motor direction and the brake condition. Two selection pins (SEL0 and SEL1) are available to address the information available on the Multisense to the microcontroller.The Multisense pin allows to monitor the motor current by delivering a current proportional to the motor current value and also provides the diagnostic feedback. The PWM, up to 20 KHz, allows to control the speed of the motor in all possible conditions. |

The three dies are assembled in a SO-16N package on electrically isolated leadframes.
Moreover, its fully symmetrical mechanical design allows superior manufacturability at board level.

The device incorporates a full protected dual high-side driver and the drivers and protections for the two external power MOSFETs in low-side configuration. The device is designed using STMicroelectronics well known and proven proprietary VIPower®technology that allows to efficiently integrate on the same die a true PowerMOSFET with an intelligent signal/ protection circuitry. The device is housed in a PowerSSO-36 exposed pad package to optimize the dissipation performances. The input signals INA and INB can directly interface the microcontroller to select the motor direction and the brake conditions. Two selection pins (SEL0 and SEL1) are available to address to the microcontroller the information available on the MultiSense. The MultiSense pin allows to monitor the motor current, provides a voltage proportional to the battery value and the information on the temperature of the chip. The integrated protections are: load current limitation, overload active power limitation (with latch-off), overtemperature shutdown (with latch-off) and cross current protection. The VNQ5E050AK-E is a quad channel high-side driver manufactured using ST proprietary VIPower M0-5 technology and housed in PowerSSO-24 package. The VNQ5E050AK-E is designed to drive 12 V automotive grounded loads, providing protection, diagnostics and easy 3 V and 5 V CMOS-compatible interface with any microcontroller.
The device integrates advanced protective functions such as load current limitation, inrush and overload active management by power limitation, overtemperature shut-off with auto-restart and overvoltage active clamp. A dedicated analog current sense pin is associated with every output channel provides enhanced diagnostic functions including fast detection of overload and short-circuit to ground through power limitation indication, overtemperature indication, short-circuit to VCCdiagnosis and ON-state and OFF-state open-load detection.
The current sensing and diagnostic feedback of the whole device can be disabled by pulling the CS_DIS pin high to share the external sense resistor with similar devices. |
