ISL4089DC-Restored Video Amplifier | Amplifiers | 1 | Obsolete | The ISL4089 is a complete DC-restored monolithic video amplifier sub-system. It contains a high-performance video amplifier and a nulling, sample-and-hold amplifier designed to establish a programmable DC output level. When the HOLD logic input 0 is applied, the DC restore function is active. The sample-and-hold amplifier loop is closed and used to null the DC offset of the video amplifier. This can occur during sync, or, at any time that a black level is expected. When the HOLD input 1 is applied, the correcting voltage is stored on the video amplifier's input coupling capacitor. This condition must be true during active video. The restored DC voltage level can be adjusted using an external reference voltage applied to the VREFpin. The device operates from a single +5V supply and is ideal for +5V only systems when used with a sync separator, such as the EL1883. The ISL4089 is intended to directly replace the EL4089 only in certain applications. This direct replacement requires that the single positive supply is no higher than +5.5V and that no part of the clamped output goes below ground. The NC on pin 6 is not internally connected, so it can be connected to the -5V pin in existing EL4089 applications. The ISL4089 is specified for operation over -40 °C to +85 °C temperature range. |

ISL41387±15kV ESD Protected, 5V, Dual Protocol (RS-232/RS-485) Transceivers | Integrated Circuits (ICs) | 1 | Obsolete | These devices are BiCMOS interface ICs that are user configured as either a single RS-422, RS-485 differential transceiver, or as a dual (2 Tx, 2 Rx) RS-232 transceiver. In RS-232 mode, the on-board charge pump generates RS-232 compliant ±5V Tx output levels, from a supply as low as 4.5V. Four small 0.1µF capacitors are required for the charge pump. The transceivers are RS-232 compliant, with the Rx inputs handling up to ±25V, and the Tx outputs handling ±12V. In RS-485 mode, the transceivers support both the RS-485 and RS-422 differential communication standards. The RS-485 receiver features full fail-safe operation, so the Rx output remains in a high state if the inputs are open or shorted together. The RS-485 transmitter supports up to three data rates, two of which are slew rate limited for problem-free communications. The charge pump disables in RS-485 mode, thereby saving power, minimizing noise and eliminating the charge pump capacitors. Both RS-232, RS-485 modes feature loopback and shutdown functions. The loopback mode internally connects the Tx outputs to the corresponding Rx input, which facilitates the implementation of board level self-test functions. The outputs remain connected to the loads during loopback, so connection problems (e. g., shorted connectors or cables) can be detected. The shutdown mode disables the Tx and Rx outputs, disables the charge pump if in RS-232 mode, and places the IC in a low current (35µA) mode. The ISL41387 is a QFN packaged device that offers additional functionality, including a lower speed and edge rate option (115kbps) for EMI sensitive designs, or to allow longer bus lengths. It also features a logic supply voltage pin (VL) that sets the VOHlevel of logic outputs, and the switching points of logic inputs, to be compatible with another supply voltage in mixed voltage systems. The QFN's choice of active high or low Rx enable pins increases design flexibility, allowing Tx/Rx direction control via a single signal by connecting DEN and RXEN together. For a dual port version of these devices, please see the ISL81334, ISL41334 datasheet. |
ISL4223EQFN Packaged, ±15kV ESD Protected, +2.7V to +5.5V, 150nA, 250kbps, RS-232 Transmitters/Receivers | Integrated Circuits (ICs) | 2 | Active | The ISL3232E, ISL4221E, and ISL4223E devices are 2. 7V to 5. 5V powered RS-232 transmitters/receivers that meet ElA/TIA-232 and V. 28/V. 24 specifications, even at VCC= 3. 0V. They provide ±15kV ESD protection (IEC61000-4-2 Air Gap and Human Body Model) on transmitter outputs and receiver inputs (RS-232 pins). Targeted applications are PDAs, Palmtops, and hand-held products where the low operational power consumption and even lower standby power consumption are critical. Efficient on-chip charge pumps, coupled with manual and automatic powerdown functions, reduce the standby supply current to a 150nA trickle. The 5mmx5mm Quad Flat No-Lead (QFN) packaging and the use of small, low value capacitors ensure board space savings. Data rates greater than 250kbps are ensured at worst case load conditions. The ISL4221E is a 1 driver, 1 receiver device and the ISL3232E and ISL4223E are 2 driver, 2 receiver devices that, coupled with the 5mmx5mm QFN package, provide the industry's smallest, lowest power serial port suitable for PDAs, and hand-held applications. The 5mmx5mm QFN requires 40% less board area than a 20 Ld TSSOP, and is nearly 20% thinner. The ISL4221E and ISL4223E versions feature an automatic powerdown function that powers down the on-chip power supply and driver circuits. Automatic powerdown occurs when an attached peripheral device is shut off or the RS-232 cable is removed, and conserves system power automatically without changes to the hardware or operating system. The ISL4221E and ISL4223E power back up automatically when a valid RS-232 voltage is applied to any receiver input. |
ISL4238EQFN Packaged, ±15kV ESD Protected, +2.7V to +5.5V, 10nA, 250kbps/1Mbps, RS-232 Transceivers with Enhanced Automatic Powerdown | Interface | 2 | Active | The Intersil ISL4238E, ISL4244E and ISL4245E devices are 2. 7V to 5. 5V powered RS-232 transmitters/receivers which meet ElA/TIA-232 and V. 28/V. 24 specifications, even at VCC= 3. 0V. Additionally, they provide ±15kV ESD protection (IEC61000-4-2 Air Gap and Human Body Model) on transmitter outputs and receiver inputs (RS-232 pins). Targeted applications are PDAs, Palmtops, and notebook and laptop computers where the low operational, and even lower standby power consumption is critical. Efficient on-chip charge pumps, coupled with manual and enhanced automatic power-down functions, reduce the standby supply current to a 10nA trickle. Tiny 5mmx5mm Quad Flat No-Lead (QFN) packaging and the use of small, low value capacitors ensure board space savings as well. Data rates greater than 250kbps (ISL4238E/ISL4244E)/1Mbps (ISL4245E) are guaranteed at worst case load conditions. The ISL424xE are 3 driver, 5 receiver (DTE) devices that, coupled with the QFN package, provide the industry's smallest, lowest power complete serial port suitable for PDAs, and laptop or notebook computers. The 32 Ld 5x5 QFN requires 60% less board area than a 28 lead TSSOP, and is nearly 20% thinner. The devices also include a noninverting always-active receiver for wake-up capability. The ISL4238E is a 5 driver, 3 receiver device optimized for DCE applications with full hardware handshaking. It also includes a noninverting always-active receiver for RING INDICATOR monitoring. Transmitter and logic inputs include active feedback resistors that retain the input state once driven to a valid logic level. These devices feature an enhanced automatic power-down function which powers down the on-chip power-supply and driver circuits. This occurs when all receiver and transmitter inputs detect no signal transitions for a period of 30s. These devices power back-up, automatically, whenever they sense a transition on any transmitter or receiver input. Table 1 summarizes the features of the ISL4238E, ISL4244E, ISL4245, while Application Note AN9863 summarizes the features of each device comprising the 3V RS-232 family. |
