The MCP22350 is a highly integrated, small form factor USB Type-C® Power Delivery (PD) Port Controller designed to adhere to the USB Type-C® Cable and Connector Specification and USB Power Delivery 3.1 Specification. The MCP22350 provides cable plug orientation and detection for a USB Type-C® receptacle and implements baseband communication with a partner USB Type-C® device via the integrated USB Power Delivery 3.1 MAC. The MCP22350 is designed to function as a Companion Power Delivery Controller to an external Microchip MCU/SoC using the integrated SPI interface. The device is capable of controlling the Power Delivery current and voltage using an external power device. The MCP22350 integrates many of the analog discrete components required for USB Type-C PD applications, including two VCONN FETs with Rp/Rd switching, a power switch, and current and voltage sense circuitry for over-voltage/current detection. By integrating many of the analog discrete components required for USB Type-C PD applications, the MCP22350 provides a low cost, low power, small footprint solution for Consumer (Notebooks, Desktop PCs, Smartphones, Tablets, Monitors, Docking Stations) and Industrial (Point of Sale Systems, Printers) market segments.
