Description

General part information

BQ24800 Series

The BQ24800 device is a high-efficiency, synchronous buck multi-chemistry battery charger supporting 1-, 2-, 3-, or 4-series Li+ cells, or other battery chemistries up to 19.2V.

Through SMBus, a host microcontroller programs charge current, charge voltage, input current limit and discharge current limit with high regulation accuracies. Additionally, the BQ24800 supports a two level input current limit (Peak Power mode) to fully utilize the adapter capabilities and reduce battery discharge. The BQ24800 provides adapter current (IADP), battery discharge current (IDCHG), and system power (PMON) signals to the host microcontroller and outputs the PROCHOT signal to throttle back CPU speed when needed.

The BQ24800 supports hybrid power boost mode to boost the battery voltage to supplement the adapter when system power demand is temporarily higher than the adapter is able to provide. When the adapter is not present, the BQ24800 supports battery only boost mode to boost the battery voltage above the minimum system operating voltage, providing more headroom to support system transients.
